The Department has three key roles: to train teachers of geography and specialists in theory and practice of geography; to promote interests and studies in geography and to develop a research center of geography in southern Taiwan. The Department offers bachelor's, master’s and doctoral programs with emphasis on physical geography, human geography, geographical technique, and regional geography. The Department aims to enrich students’ knowledge and skills and instill in them the ability to adjust to their environment, while at the same time developing a deeper love for their own country and concern for the world. Field teaching and academic lectures are constantly offered to enhance students' perception and broaden their outlook.
